The information will help raise public awareness of the distribution of the networks around the territory, in buildings where our citizens currently reside, and where they may one day relocate, said the spokesperson.

“The scheme will also encourage building management offices incorporated owners , as well as property developers, to meet the aspirations of our citizens to increase broadband connectivity, by retrofitting existing buildings with and to give due priority in new developments to the provision of the Networks respectively.

“In the information age, comprehensive deployment of high-quality broadband networks is a key to promoting the competitiveness of the economy and social inclusion of the society. The availability of the networks in our buildings will add value to our property and enable the occupants to enjoy wider choices of high-speed and innovative broadband services. Dr Hayley Whitaker, a prostate cancer researcher from Cancer Research UK’s Cambridge Research Institute who helped develop the database, said: “One of the biggest challenges in prostate cancer treatment is identifying the men with aggressive prostate cancers who should be treated, as opposed to others with non-aggressive tumours who could be monitored.


“This new biobank holds both clinical and molecular data, which could help us find a marker to help doctors make this difficult decision.”

OSC also recently added storage upgrades as part of its plan to develop a statewide computational infrastructure for genomics data analysis.

"We are working with research hospitals and university medical centers to push forward a plan to synthesize computation and storage that allows medical researchers to focus on the science and expedite results, while realizing cost savings," said Ashok Krishnamurthy, senior director of research at the Ohio Supercomputer Center. "OSC's comprehensive collection of resources enables researchers to store, organize and visualization this data-intensive information."

Oracle, the world's second largest independent software company has released version 4.0 of its cross-platform VM VirtualBox desktop virtual office application for x86 hardware.

Oracle Linux and Virtualisation Engineering Senior VP Wim Coekaerts said, "Oracle VM VirtualBox 4.0 is the third major product release in just over a year, and adds to the many new product releases across the Oracle Virtualization product line, illustrating the investment and importance that Oracle places on providing a comprehensive desktop-to-data-center, virtualisation solution."

According to the company, based in US offices in California, the major update to its open source software solution continues to deliver on Oracle’s commitment to open source. Version 4.0 features an improved user interface, as well as added virtual hardware support, including for chip-sets supporting PCI Express and others. Other changes include increased capacity and throughput using a new asynchronous I/O model for networked (iSCSI) and local storage, and improved standards support with support for the Open Virtualisation Format (OVF).
