Office Space, Planning the Office Space Decor of Your Child-Related Business |
If your business involves children, you need to make sure that your office space is kid-friendly. After all, children are not going to feel very comfortable coming into your office space if it is too subdued and serious. For any child-related business, you need to make sure that your décor is dynamic and cheerful.
Now, this doesn’t mean that you have to paint the walls a garishly bright color and fling toys everywhere. There are ways you can make your office space kid-friendly and comfortable-and still make it tasteful and stylish enough so that adults will appreciate it as well.
First of all, toys will be necessary for most child-related businesses. So, resign yourself to that fact and find a way to incorporate them into the waiting area of your office space. It is best if you can designate a specific spot for a play area. Try to section off the area; perhaps you can use another room element to make a faux wall to partition the area. Or, you could even have a partial wall built around the play area. A wall of about two feet in height would work well. It doesn’t necessarily need to completely contain the entire play area; as long as it is defines the play area, that is good enough.
Some children may not feel like playing, though. So, aside from a play area, you probably want to have a reading area for children in your office space. Just like most a waiting area provides reading material for adults, a kid-friendly office space needs to furnish books and magazines for children. This does not need to be a separately sectioned-off area; simply place the kids’ reading materials in a distinct rack or on a specific bookshelf.
Child-friendly colors need to be used in the décor of your office space. This means bright, mainly primary colors, basically. You don’t need the entire rainbow of colors, though. You may want to select a fun wallpaper border and then choose a couple of colors from the border to use for the rest of the items in the office space. If you choose to do this, make sure that the base color for your walls is a neutral color. The office space will look too gaudy if you have a colorful border, walls that are painted a primary color, and furnishings that are brightly colored. So, it is best to keep the walls neutral and have the border and furnishings in fun colors.
Speaking of the rest of the furnishings, it is important to remember to get some kid-sized items for your office space. Perhaps you could get a table and chairs set that is sized for children. Or, you could simply add some child-sized chairs or couches to the seating area.
Planning the décor of your child-related business doesn’t have to be difficult. And if you design your office using the tips above, your office will still be adult-friendly as well. Child-friendly doesn’t have to mean tasteless and tawdry-your office space can appeal to kids and still be attractive to adults. |
