Office Space, Office Space Windows - Curtains or Blinds |
Windows can be the source of great beauty. They can gage the passage of time. A person watching the window as the time passes can be astonished to find the daylight fading. So the question is how much of the outside world should the employees view from their office space?
Employees can have many different reactions to an open window. Some may be very distracted by the view and daydream instead of working. Some may see the sky begin to grow dark and start worrying about unfinished work and office space responsibilities. Not everyone may respond to pressure with grace. With this in mind letting some light shine in is not a bad thing, but how much light is enough.
In a very stressful office space, it might be nice to have a view of the outside for a momentary daydream to relieve some stress. Watching birds fluttering about can lift the spirits, and lift the corners of the mouth. In locations that have very cold weather, seeing the weather outside may give the employee a sense of gratitude for being in a nice warm office space. So which accents a window better, curtains or blinds? Maybe both?
Blinds can be very flattering to a window. They can be vertical, horizontal, or full panel. There is a wide variety and a wide range of materials used for blinds. Plastic, wood, bamboo, and aluminum are just a few of the choices. The main difference between curtains and blinds is maintenance requirements. For dirty blinds, it can be as easy cleaning them with a feather duster or a sponge with soap and water. When closed properly, it can block out light completely and add extra insulation from the heat or cold.
Curtains can be fancy, or practical. They can have tassels, beads, lace, or ribbons. They can be thick or thin. They can be dark in color or light in color. The main thing to consider with curtains are what image the company should project in the office space. Really dark colored curtains can give a very dark appearance to the room. Lightly colored curtains could brighten the office space, but with lighter colors, the sun rays can shine through, this could put a glare on monitors, television sets, or pictures.
Curtains can be drawn back or let down to let in as much or as little sunlight as desired. They can be long to give the appearance of a higher ceiling. They can be short, to give an appearance of a more cozy office space. The only draw back to curtains are that they can hold odor, must be washed often to remove dust and odor, and can fade rapidly in the sunlight.
In conclusion, a combination can give the office space a lovely mix of the two, adding color and sophistication to light and added insulation. The curtains can be drawn and the blinds opened to filter the light without blocking it out completely. Choosing between the two can be a hard decision. |
