Office Space, Office Space Computers |
 |
When designing an office space, figuring out what would be the most appropriate computer for the office space can be a tough decision. A computer is a computer, right? Not necessarily. Every computer can perform just about the same tasks, but not every compute can fit in a briefcase. Not every computer takes up half the desk space. So what is the right computer for the office space?
First let's decide what it will be used for. If it will be used to simply process a few reports, then it may not be necessary to have a fancy computer. If it will be to process reports, create web pages, edit e-mailed documents, set up meetings, follow up on vital company information and to gather new clients, then a better computer might be in order.
The office space only has a certain amount of physical space in which to place things. The smaller the space, the smaller the items in that space need to be. If the office space is very limited, but a laptop computer is not sturdy or stable enough, a desk top computer with a thin central processing unit and a flat panel monitor would be able to handle the work without taking huge amounts of space. Just ten years ago, desk top computers took up whole desks. The monitors were large and bulky along with the central processing unit. Now a computer can take up relatively little space.
If physical space is not your only issue in the office space, maybe it is mobility. An employee that may take his or her work home might benefit from a company laptop. The laptop is portable and can be easily moved from one office space to another. It is more convenient this way because programs that are specific to the company only have to be installed on one computer. With a desk top, the employee who takes his or her work home with her may have to have company specific information installed on a personal computer. This may not be in the best interest of the company.
Even if a computer will not be taken home to complete work, the computer may function as a mobile workstation and move from one office space to another. If presentations will be performed using the computer, the laptop might be ideal. Another reason my laptops might be preferable, is that in the event of a power outage, a laptop has a built in battery pack.
A desk top computer need not fear a power outage either. Back up battery power can be purchased for a desk top. Laptops can be quite colorful, though they are more expensive this way. A laptop might also come with a built in tablet which lets the user write using a stylus. This can save paper during meetings.
With the different choices, desk tops, laptops, slim central processing units, tablet PCs, there is sure to be one that is perfect for that office space. |
