Office Space, Putting it all Together |
 |
You've worked long and hard for that employer, but you've finally made the decision to earn a living working at home. You've found the ideal work-at-home career, you're making better money now than with your former job, but there's just one thing wrong. You're still calling your kitchen table your desk. Oh please, you've drawn up the plans for your office space in the home. You even did a nice job of putting it on graph paper. So what are you waiting for? It's time to get started setting up that office.
The first undertaking involves what I call the CCCR of setting up office space in your home cleaning, clearing, constructing, and replacing and not necessarily in that order either. It stands to reason that the quicker you complete the set-up of your home office, the sooner you can get to work. Here's some steps to help make that task go efficiently and smoothly:
Remove furniture and plants from the room if this is the practical thing to do. If you decide to convert a closet into your office space, get those clothes out of there and clean the interior area.
If remodeling is an issue, consider the demolition necessary to remove any built-in partitions or shelves that will no longer be needed.
If your plan includes cabinetry, cable outlets, electrical sockets, phone jacks, shelving, or wall partitions, now's the time to take care of those issues.
Clean and paint walls (or wallpaper them), add any floor coverings (if needed), and hang or replace light fixtures before you start putting fixtures and furniture into the office space.
Now you can start adding office fixtures and furniture since the room is finished being remodeled. Start with the largest pieces first in case you may need to move or shift things around, and dust the items before you bring them into that beautifully remodeled area.
Start bringing in all your office equipment. It's a good idea to clean it now if it needs it, before everything is plugged in and powered up. Make sure that all cords reach the socket and that you have surge protectors wherever needed.
Now, this is very important. Before you start plugging in your equipment and powering it up, peruse the entire office space one final time and make sure that you are happy with the layout and can live with it this way for a long time. If you need to make any final changes, now is the time you want to do that.
Add any artwork, bulletin boards, chalkboards, paintings, or wall hangings that you have picked out and bought. Once they are hung, make sure you are happy with where you have hung them.
Next, bring in all the smaller items. These would be items such as desktop items, lamps, organizers, etc. If they need cleaning or dusting, do that as you bring each piece into the office space.
Last, but not least, make one final check to make sure you are happy with the way you've set things up. Now fire everything up and get to work. |
