Office Space, Making your office space child proof

Every child has a natural curiosity as to what happens while you are at work. Working from home allows the children to see exactly what is going on behind the scenes. This is a great learning experience for any child. The office space becomes a reality and they get to see exactly what you do. The problem is that many times the children want to imitate the parents.

Children have imitated adults for years. Little girls playing dress up. Little boys playing with trucks and making the car sounds with their mouths. When they go into the home office space to play like an adult trouble can start. It is best to be prepared before anything happens.

The telephone is an important tool in the office space. It is best to keep this out of the reach of little hands. Not only could you find calls to New Zealand or London on the bill but the client may want to know if you are abiding by child labor laws if the kids answer the phone. The best thing to do is unplug all phones while you are working except a cordless phone you have with you. While you are not on the phone, but it someplace in the office space that you can reach but the children can not be tempted. This ensures business calls stay business.

Another neat office space gadget that kids love is the key board. A few well tapped strokes on the keys and the entire hard drive can be wiped out. The one thing that should have come with a child safety lock does not have one installed. The key board must be guarded at all times. You may think it is safe to turn off the monitor to run to the bathroom real quick. The kids think the computer is not on so they will not touch it. This is the most sure fire way to get them to touch it. If a child is in the office space and they think the computer is off, they know they will not hurt the system by tapping on the keys. The best thing to do is use a desk that has a top drawer. The keyboard can be placed out of site when you are not in the office space. This keeps little fingers from accidentally pushing the wrong buttons.

As for things like the paper shredder, which can easily eat any tax document you may have wanted to save, or the fax machine which can send great crayola prints to California, these things should be left off any time you are not using them. A small child's motor skills double when your back is turned. It is a fact of life. In order to avoid any quiet "oops" coming from the other side of the office space, just play it safe and turn the machines off..

It is wonderful to have the opportunity to work in the home office space so you can spend time with your kids. You just need to make sure the time is enjoyable for both of you. A few simple precautions can make for a very productive day.
