Office Space, Hazards in an Office Space |
 |
Danger lurks everywhere. In houses, on streets, in stores, in parking lots, and even at work. No one wants to go to work and have someone be skimping on safety. So what hazards are in an office space?
One of the most prominent hazard is electrical hazards. It is hard to find an office space that doesn't contain some electrical equipment. Many companies and the office space in them contain at least one piece of electrical equipment. So what are some hazards when dealing with electrical equipment? One of the most common hazard is a fire hazard. Any electrical outlet could short out and cause a fire to break out at any time. An office space is teaming with possible frayed wires, loose plugs, and paper. Three things that can spark a fire out of control.
Besides fire, electrical equipment poses a shock hazard. Anyone could bend down at any time to plug or unplug a piece of electrical equipment and find a strong electrical current suddenly going through their bodies. When a frayed cord is spotted it should be changed out immediately. The equipment with a frayed cord could risk losing all saved information. A company that relies on computers to keep vital information would be at a loss should a short out occur.
Another common hazard is slippery floors. If there is a spill clean it up immediately, before a co-worker can injure themselves. Turning a blind eye to potential hazards can get everyone hurt. Slips may hurt a person's ankles, they could break a bone, and end up cut and bleeding.
One of the most common hazards in a work place, which includes an office space is back injury. In an office space, the back can be injured by picking up a box of printer paper. It can be injured from sitting in once positions for a length of time. Get up and stretch at regular intervals.
Bathrooms pose a huge leaking problem. Toilets overflow, sinks leak, and people wash their hands and let them drip on each other. Bathrooms also pose potentials to spread disease. Not being able to point out the hazards is a chance for that hazard to ultimately cause injury.
One way to keep hazards in check is to make a checklist and have it completed on a regular basis. Search the office space for anything that could pose a hazard and put it on the list. If new things are found, add them to the list. Employees who feel safe can work better. But make sure employees are always aware of potential hazards around them and what to do in the office space to prevent injury.
So how could hazards be handled. First locate the hazards, inspect them and keep inspecting them. Don't become complacent in the work place and don't be lazy in the office space when it comes to the safety of others. If there is a hazard, a frayed cord, a leaky faucet, or a potentially unsafe act, including lifting a heavy box with the back instead of the legs, don't ignore it. |
