Office Space, Foliage in the Office Space

Nothing can be more relaxing then watching a tulip grow from a bulb or leaf into a beautiful flower. The fragrance is calming, and the bright colors lift the spirit. Tulips aren't the only plant that can do that. In fact there is no limit to the number of foliage that can brighten an office space. So what should be considered when choosing foliage?

Among one of the first things to consider, should be how much time will be devoted to caring for the plant. If no time will be devoted to caring for the plants, there are many silk plants and rubber plants that give the appearance of real foliage without the maintenance of real foliage. Anything from a small container of grass to a five foot tree can be found in silk. Flowers and ferns, ficus and violets, whatever the preference for the office space, silk is a low maintenance alternative with only necessary dusting to keep them bright and inviting.

If the office space can accommodate real plants but have little time to devote to care-taking responsibilities, cacti can be a good choice. They need little water and little maintenance. There are many species of cacti, including many that flower. Flowers come in many colors and sizes and can be in bloom for as little as a couple of hours or as long as a week. If cacti are not preferable in the office space, other plants also offer a low maintenance alternative. A dragon tree and lucky bamboo are low maintenance plants along with the money tree. Every office could use a money tree.

If there is more time to devote to care responsibilities in the office space, higher maintenance plants can be an option. Depending on space, a tree can be added to the office space. If there is a desire to really liven up the office, peace lilies can be grown from clear water-filled bowls and a beta can be placed in the bowl. This requires maintenance both for the plant and the fish. While this idea requires more maintenance, it also provides an additional stress reliever. Watching a fish swimming about can have a calming effect.

In addition to the amount of maintenance an office space can spare, it should also be considered what physical space will be available for the plant. If the office space has a considerable amount of electrical equipment, it may be decided that the best place in the office space will be the window or it may be decided that the plant will have its own table in the office space. A tree will simply need floor space, while a hanging plant will need to be placed so that it is impossible for dripping water to drip on electrical equipment.

To summarize, foliage in an office space can add a relaxing and calming effect to the office space. Some things to consider would be whether a real plant or imitation is desired, how much maintenance can be devoted and the amount of space available for the foliage.
