Office Space, Doors in an Office Space |
 |
Nobody gives much thought to something as mundane as the doors in an office space. The truth is that doors can affect a lot of things in an office space and there are many different doors to choose from.
The first type of door to discuss is the glass door. A glass door can come in handy because all those walking by the door can see that the employee is working, or busy with a client, or on the phone. This allows employers to keep tabs on the employees. While it is easy to look busy, an employee in an office space being watched is less likely to goof off then one who knows he or she is being watched. The disadvantage to the glass door is that they can be easily broken. In a high security office space, that may not be preferable.
Another type of door is the wooden door. While this type of door is far more difficult to break into, it is also more visually private. In an office with no windows or doors, it is easy to wonder what is going on behind the closed doors. It is also easy for an employee to slack when they know that no one is watching them.
Metal or aluminum doors provide much the same privacy as wooden doors, but they are harder to break into. They may be noisier then the wooden or glass doors. An advantage of having a metal door is that it can second as a bulletin board. Messages can be left on the doors when the employee is out of the office, notes can be left as reminders.
Most office spaces have open door policies, so it must also be considered whether the door will be left open during working hours or closed to give a more private and quiet work environment. If it will be left open during the day, then it might not be important what material the door is made from.
Some doors have windows. If the windows are close to the handle, it might be easy to break into. If the window is at the top of the door, it might be harder. Windows can add light to the office space and it can make a more sophisticated look for the company. Whether it is a door to an individual office space or the company in general, this might need to be considered when deciding on what type of door would be best for the company.
One more thing to think about is if the door will be a single door or a double door. A double door can give the illusion of a larger office space then a single one. It can be adjusted so that both doors are open or just one is open.
All companies need doors. One thing to think about is whether it is an outside door or an office space door, whether the employee needs complete visual privacy, a sturdier door, or one that can multi-task. |
