Office Space, Don't Waste the Office Space |

Working from home is a big decision. It is not the right choice for everyone. You must have discipline. You must have courage. You must be sincere in your efforts. If these things do not apply to you then you are just going to waste the office space you have created.
It is too easy to brag about working in your pajamas. You can talk for hours about the benefits of working from the home office space. If you are not doing anything but bragging about it then you are wasting the office space. You need to do the work. You need to apply yourself. You need to treat your home office space as though it were the old office you used to drive off to every morning.
You should discipline yourself to get up every morning as though you were still working outside the home. Get dressed in casual business clothes. There are two reasons for this. The more comfortable you are the less professional you may find yourself acting. The other thing is you never know when you will meet someone during the day who is a potential client. You will want to make a good impression. The office space you set up may be the most professional looking office in town. If you do not look professional the office space will not make a bit of difference.
Even though you are the boss this does not mean you can forget professionalism. You must not waste the office space because you think you can get around to the project when you get the chance. If you have a job to do then you must do it. You made a commitment to accomplish a task for someone. This person is depending on you. They are taking you at your word that you can provide the service you promised. The home office space is always there waiting. It can become tempting to say you will get to it in a minute. By the time you know it, two hours have passed and the work is falling behind.
Many great businesses have failed because the owner failed to remain as professional in the home office space as they were in the regular office space. They started becoming more comfortable in PJ's and sweat pants than in casual business attire. The owner stopped pushing themselves as hard as they did in the formal office space. The home office space made it too easy to relax and enjoy the sunshine than to work. Before they knew it the client list was gone. The office space was sitting empty. The bank account was low. It was time to go back into the conventional office space to work again.
This is something that can be avoided with a little bit of insight. The home office space does not have to go to waste. If you remain as professional as you were when you first started your home business you will continue to have success. The home office space will not go to waste. |
