Office Space, Ways to Quiet Your Home Office Space

Having an office space at home in which to work is quite helpful for many people. It allows them to take work home instead of having to complete everything at the office, for instance-many companies allow some workers to do some work at home like this. Other people use their home office spaces to start new businesses, which they are then able to grow into successful endeavors.

But one problem many people have with home office spaces is the noise. Many houses just are not soundproofed very well. They have thin walls, for instance. Or perhaps the family has young children who are constantly running around making noise (as children normally do). Or maybe the outside noise tends to enter the house rather loudly-this happens quite often for people who live in the city, for example.

There are ways, though, to help control the noise factor in home office spaces so that people can get their necessary work done.

First of all, here’s a tip for people who haven’t yet set up their home office space. Try to choose the best spot in your home according to the noise levels in your home. For example, the front of your home may be louder than the back of your home because of the street noise. And, it may not be wise to choose an area next to the children’s bedrooms or playroom. Of course, you may not have much choice in where you set up your office space if you do not have a large home, but you might have some options.

Next, after selecting a home office space-or, if you have already had a home office space set up-one idea to try to lower the noise levels in your office is to think about replacing the window(s) with glass block. Glass block is very insulating and can block out more of the noise.

Similarly, you can try installing tapestries on the walls in your home office space. Hanging anything thick on the walls will act to further insulate the walls, in effect making the walls thicker and more soundproof. There are many beautiful tapestries that you can find to match any décor.

Another idea is to use white noise in your home office space. Many people use white noise when they sleep to block out background sounds or neighborhood noise. So, you could try getting a white noise machine. There are several that play a variety of sounds, such as ocean waves or night crickets. Or, you could have a fan or an air conditioner running-this will achieve the same purpose. The point is to use the blank, white noise to block out disruptive noise.

Finally, if all else fails, you can try working during the times when your home office space is quieter. Perhaps your neighborhood is much less noisy during the day when all of the school-age children are at school. Or, maybe you can try doing work in the evenings or early in the morning when most people aren’t outside.
